What do I want to achieve through my teaching in the Classroom?


In order of importance to my Vision

The Atmosphere - Orangatanga
  1. Develop strong relationships/Kotahitanga- Peer to peer and between students and teacher
  2. High engagement and motivation through choice of activities.

Planning
  1. Skills based approach - You can give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, or you can teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.
  2. Interactive approach - Students engage with meaningful decision making that influences their learning
  3. Assessment primarily focused on understanding application of skill...

Working with students learning together on projects, e.g. Sam and I working out how to put photos onto Kidblog and move them around

Parents involved with their blogs. Could do this through mid year reports.

Each unit is underpinned by an aspect of these skills
Review the 7 key skills and their sub skills.  
Focus on what skills we are learning before, during and after units.
Interactive approach
Provide enough instructions for students to continue at their own pace and progress individually where possible
Class dojo random feature to select students to share ideas and opinions
Personal Reflection that encourages thinking about how to apply their learning 


Give students opportunities for decision making that impacts their learning e.g., topic choice, task choice
Explore effective methods for students to record evidence while doing an activity, e.g., forms, photos, short vids - 20sec, 
Assessment primarily focused on understanding application of skill
Assessment based on the 7 Key Skills
Develop literacy aspect of social studies teaching and assessment
Use literacy resources from others e.g., for Paragraph writing, spelling and punctuation, document layout,

E Learning Vision


What do I want to achieve through the use of the E-Learning environment?

Learning (Equal importance)
  • Develop effective collaboration within the classroom and around the world
  • Connect with the wider community - Parents, Dilworth School, The world
  • Prepare students for workplace increasingly focused on the digital world

Hardware Logistics (In order of importance)
  1. Use multiple formats to evidence learning
  2. Have single place for all significant learning to be displayed in multiple formats
  3. Easy access to work any time for teacher and students

Make google sites of shared interest with like minded member of other classes extension activity. Start with google doc of all possible subjects then assign the creators and go for it.

Cabin Coach (Pastoral Care) Vision

What do I want to achieve as a Cabin Coach? 

  • Strong Relationships - Peer to Peer and Coach to Cabin Members
  • Develop Interdependence - Cabin Members can manage the daily running of the cabin with direct supervision in term one and they progress to indirect supervision by term 4
  • Develop independence in daily life - cleaning, punctuality, prepared
  • Cabin Member do the Right Thing when not being supervised

What are the pedagogies I do to support this?

Strong Relationships
Firm but fair.  Always keep calm adult state when in conversation.  Plan shared fun experiences.
Explain group development stages
Use Bucket meeting to clear the air when needed
Operate as a part of the team more often, e.g. games, cleaning, evening meals cleaning


Develop Interdependence
Start very directive leadership in term one and move to supportive leadership in term 4
Hand over ownership of cleaning checking
Plane Crew Concept Session
Develop a clear step system with performance indicators for when I should be adapting my leadership style, perhaps link it with group challenge and reward of privilege/freedoms
Develop Independence
Ensuring they are accountable when they don’t meet expectations
Frame Concept Session
Talk about concept of no bell more regularly.  
Develop and use a self assessment tool for how well they are meeting expectations.
Do the Right Thing
Always follow through with future based conversations when not so good decision has been made by them
