Haeata Curriculum General Reflection

I wanted to do some work with the overarching aspects of the Curriculum and I decided to do this to be able to see it all at once.  I put some of my own wording in for the definitions of things.

It seems to me that the
  • Values are what drive our actions.
  • Essential Agreements are what we are developing.
  • Dispositions are what we want to be.
  • Principles are a guide for designing of learning.

It will be good to reflect on my actions as I go along to see how they align with the Curriculum and if there is any realignment needed moving forward. I feel that so much of this is what is a part of me and my beliefs around learning that there almost always is alignment in some area, yet it is good to use these as a part of the daily language.

Project Based Learning Discussion

Collaborative discussion today led by Helen.  Also present was Parintorn, Courtney, Jenny, Becca, Vanessa, and Grant.  We read the Project Based Learning reading and discussed the key points and things that we found interesting in there.  And we followed up with the SDL reading at the end.  The key parts for me were the foundation steps for students to really be able to engage in project based learning.

The need first a Desire to engage or learn, and then the ability to manage themselves and get involved in their learning independently.

The First is the most essential and the second can be coached as we go along but the focus and commitment that comes from the desire is necessary.  Once those parts are in place the Project Based Learning that is possible can be really awesome and deep.

Dispositions Haeata

Dispositions Haeata

I had a closer look at the dispositions today, and put them into a mind map for me to get my head around them better.  I can see the value in unpacking the dispositions into observable and specific behaviours that are easier to evidence against.  As I was building the mind map I started making notes about the unpacked specific behaviours and how good I had found them for identifying evidence.  Some were much easier than others to do that with.
